The CIS offers classes to adults 18-years and older – with a focus on individuals involved in the social movement, women struggling for their self-determination, and those who are unable to attend other language schools for financial reasons.  Classes are maintained at an affordable price with need-based half-scholarships available.  We offer all levels of English instruction from beginner to conversational.  The school uses a methodology based on communication and participatory techniques.  Classroom activities, materials, and discussion include social content.

Volunteer English Teachers

The teachers are volunteers, most come from other countries, and are usually, but not necessarily, native English speakers.

Classes are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:15 - 7:00 pm, often with a ten minute break.  Usually classes have between 6 - 8 students each, for a total of approximately 30 students in every session.

Evaluation Process

The evaluation process is extremely important to the functioning of the program.  There are two evaluation periods in a regular session - mid-cycle and at the end of the cycle. Students evaluate the performance of their teacher and the school in general, and make suggestions.  These suggestions are discussed and implemented through teachers' meetings and CIS coordinating team meetings.

The English School cycles for 2007/2008 are as follows:
