The CIS’s English School offers online and on-site classes from beginner to advanced conversation to adults 18 years and older at an affordable price. Most teachers are native English speakers. The school uses a methodology based on communication and participatory techniques.

Classroom activities, materials, and discussion include content about current, historical, cultural, and social issues.

Need-based partial scholarships may be available.

Usually classes have between 5-6 students each, for a total of approximately 40 students in every session.

We hold 4 sessions a year and each session lasts 9-10 weeks.

Students’ payments cover the price of instruction, materials, graduation expenses, and teacher training. Students must pay at least half on the first day of class, and the other half within 15 days of the start of the session.

Origins of the English School

In 1994, after a 13-year disruption to schooling due to the civil war, Salvadorans were granted accelerated courses to get high school degrees. Many were flunking their English courses they needed to graduate - and called the CIS for help.

Since then, the CIS built the program as a volunteer exchange, training volunteers from abroad as English teachers and Salvadorans studying to be English teachers with a curriculum based on social justice and a popular education methodology. To date, the CIS has taught English to more than 5,000 students.
