Providing Clean Water and Health Education to Families in Comasagua
San Salvador, October 13, 2025. Last Friday, the CIS Clean Water & Environment Program carried out another impactful delivery in the community of Bello Horizontes, Comasagua. We provided water filters to 15 families, together with training sessions on handwashing, parasite prevention, and hygiene — with the valuable support of a promoter from the Ministry of Health.
Access to clean, safe water is not just a service; it’s a human right. In El Salvador, 12% of the population still lacks access to potable water and as much as 90% of surface water is contaminated by untreated waste.
Since 2011, the CIS Clean Water & Environment Program has worked to break this harmful cycle. The program distributes household water filters and trains families in their maintenance, supports communities to form water and environment committees, and partners with organizations to install larger water systems in schools and clinics.
“We are very happy to receive these water filters because now my family won’t get sick. We will be able to prevent many diseases, and that makes me so glad. We thank CIS for thinking about our health and well-being, and we invite them to continue supporting us because there are more communities in need of this kind of help.—”
In addition to delivering filters, scholarship students from the CIS Youth Scholarships and Leadership Development Program joined the initiative, supporting the educational talks and demonstrating our commitment to integrate youth leaders in community development.
This work would not be possible without the support of generous donors and partners who invest in long-term change. Thanks to your contributions, more families gain improved health, dignity, and hope.
We’ll continue walking alongside communities—building committees, training local promoters, and strengthening the sustainability of clean water projects across El Salvador.
Thank you for making a difference.
