The Success Story Behind Women in Embutidos El Espino

Driven by determination and a vision for the future, the women leading the Embutidos El Espino microbusiness continue to take firm steps toward strengthening their enterprise. With accompaniment from the Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad (CIS), the initiative reached a key milestone following the creation of its first Business Plan, a strategic tool designed to drive innovation and expand their local market reach.

This effort is already delivering tangible results: the business recently secured its first wholesale client in the San Martín market. To boost their production capacity and maintain product quality, CIS provided essential equipment, including two stainless steel worktables and a washing sink.

Beyond infrastructure, ensuring food safety has been a top priority. In September 2025, two team members completed specialized food handling training in Suchitoto in coordination with CONAMYPE and the Sanitary Registry Superintendency. They earned an official certification authorizing them to handle and prepare food under strict hygiene standards.

Despite ongoing challenges like rising raw material costs, the entrepreneurs of Embutidos El Espino keep moving forward. They are currently working on developing their official brand identity—including a new logo and product stickers— as part of their journey in the CIS Women's Empowerment School, proving that resilience and community support are essential to creating lasting change.
