A new space to learn and grow: CIS equips Educational Therapy Classroom in Tonacatepeque
Tonacatepeque, El Salvador — The Center for Exchange and Solidarity (CIS), with the support of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Kansas City, delivered educational and therapeutic materials to the Complejo Educativo Distrito Italia to equip the newly inaugurated Educational Therapy Classroom, a space designed to support children with diverse learning and developmental needs.
The delivery—highlighted in a recent reel on CIS social media—captured the enthusiasm of students, teachers, and families as the classroom officially opened its doors. This new space will provide essential tools and activities to strengthen:
Emotional regulation
Positive and assertive behaviors
Family psychoeducation
Sensory regulation activities
Social skills development
Adapted communication and learning
The Educational Therapy Classroom will benefit children diagnosed with autism, attention deficit, hyperactivity, intellectual disabilities, and other learning or developmental challenges. By providing accessible and specialized resources, CIS continues its commitment to inclusive and equitable education in Salvadoran communities.
This initiative also celebrates the leadership and dedication of Sorayda, teacher and psychologist—and proud graduate of the CIS Scholarship Program—who now serves her community with professionalism, empathy, and a deep love for education.
The project was made possible thanks to the generous support of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, whose ongoing solidarity helps expand opportunities for children and families in Tonacatepeque.
